Museo Cero

“...perhaps ecological consciousness - the rediscovery of our connection with the universe - could be the starting point of a new political philosophy” Octavio Paz

siete|media created a special sustainability program for one of the most important exhibition spaces in Mexico, the Palacio de Bellas Artes Museum, to adopt, teach and inspire a culture of sustainable practices within a museum. In September 2014, the Museum launched the green initiative program, Museo Cero, which encompasses the fundamental aspects of sustainable development: culture, economic, social and environmental.

The long-term vision of Museo Cero is: to increase the Museum's profitability by reducing operating costs (through sustainable actions) and achieve sustainability with zero environmental impact by 2020. In the creation of this program, we thought about turning it into a model of sustainability in the broad circuit of museums in Mexico while generating an example to follow for the creation of public policies and governance within the cultural sector.

“In their role as places of authority and guardians of culture, museums have unparalleled power and responsibility to model and teach methods of conservation for ourselves, our cultural resources, and our planet.”
